News from Zoë Sharp and Charlie Fox

So far, so good! #fingerscrossed

Couldn’t resist dropping you a quick email to thank everyone who preordered copies of the brand new standalone crime thriller, DANCING ON THE GRAVE, my take on the Washington Sniper story but set in the English Lake District, which came out last weekend.

So far, the responses have been very encouraging, with a great review from Ted Hertel Jr coming out soon in Deadly Pleasures Mystery Magazine: “Zoë Sharp, author of the outstanding Charlie Fox series, is one of the best, and most underrated, thriller writers around. This book proves that she should be better known. Creating suspense from the opening line right through to the novel’s bloody denouement, Sharp knows how to keep readers turning the pages. She understands people and what drives them to act, weapons and how they work, action and how to write it.” Read the full review here.

And praise indeed from Mike Ripley in his Getting Away With Murder column for Shots Crime & Thriller eZine: “Zoë Sharp…has shown that writing tough, action-packed thrillers is no longer exclusively a boys’ club.”

Linda Wilson of Crime Review UK said: “A thriller that delivers on all levels. I found it impossible to walk away until I knew the end of the story.”

Blog Tour underway

I’ve been invited to participate as a guest on various blog sites around the world, either in the form of articles, Q&A sessions, or reviews for DANCING ON THE GRAVE. These started off on Monday, July 09 with a piece I wrote for Shotsmag Confidential on ‘Kick-Ass Heroines You Should Read’. Tuesday’s stop is with ElementaryVWatson on ‘The Story Behind The Story’. There’s a new stop on the tour every day until July 22, so I hope you’ll join me somewhere along the way. The full list of dates is here.

Sneak Peek!

In my last newsletter, I promised you some Sneak Peeks at future and ongoing books, so here’s the first of them. I am in the final stages of preparing the Charlie Fox prequel, TRIAL UNDER FIRE, for publication. Before it’s actually public, however, here’s a link (link available only to subscribers to my newsletter mailing list) to the secret book page on my website, where you’ll be able to read more about the book, including an excerpt that’s currently exclusive to you, my newsletter subscribers, as a thank you for your patience and enthusiasm for all things Charlie Fox.

Be sure to bookmark the page if you want to go back to it, though, because for the moment it’s hidden on the site and not included on the main menu.

Next up: Charlie Fox

I’m working on the next instalment in the Charlie Fox series as we speak—I can’t believe this will be book #13. I intend to put more hidden pages containing Sneak Peeks of the new story as I go. Stay tuned!

At the Sharp End…

News from Zoë Sharp and Charlie Fox

DANCING ON THE GRAVE: new standalone crime thriller, set in the English Lake District, out July 1st

I’m very excited to be able to tell you that my new standalone crime thriller will be out very soon! DANCING ON THE GRAVE features a strong female central character in Crime Scene Investigator, Grace McColl. It also introduces young newcomer Detective Constable Nick Weston. Together, they must track down a sniper with a deadly .50 calibre rifle who is terrorising the inhabitants of this peaceful rural location.

You can read an excerpt from the story here.

DANCING ON THE GRAVE is available now on preorder in print, in epub and in Kindle.

In one of the most beautiful corners of England
something very ugly is about to take place.

A sniper with a mission…
a young cop with nothing to lose…
a CSI with everything to prove…
a teenage girl with a terrifying obsession…

There’s a killer on the loose in the Lake District, and the calm of an English summer is shattered.
For newly qualified Crime Scene Investigator, Grace McColl, it’s both the start of a nightmare and the chance to prove herself after a mistake that cost a life.
For Detective Constable Nick Weston, recently transferred from London, it’s an opportunity to recover his nerve after a disastrous undercover operation left him for dead.
And for a lonely, loveless teenage girl, Edith, it’s the start of a twisted fantasy—one she never dreamed might come true.

This is not the first outing for Grace McColl. She was the main character in a short story called ‘Tell Me’ I wrote a few years ago for a Crime Writers’ Association anthology, and it also appeared in THE MAMMOTH BOOK OF BEST BRITISH MYSTERIES.

Your reviews would mean a lot

And please, if you enjoy the book, do consider leaving a few words on social media, such as Twitter, Facebook, or Goodreads. Just a line or two mentioning the title and what you liked about the story would mean a lot. Thank you.

Charlie Fox prequel on the way

Do you want the good news, or the better news?

The good news is that I’ve written a 33,000-word prequel novella to the Charlie Fox series, TRIAL UNDER FIRE, which will be out in August. I always said I wouldn’t ever devote a book to what happened to get Charlie thrown out of her Special Forces training—I’ve gone into enough detail in flashback scenes throughout the series. But equally, I’ve never told the story of what she did to get her chance to join them in the first place. Until now.

And the better news? For you it’s going to be FREE.

Yup, I’m intending to put this up for sale on all the usual ebook platforms soon but I’ll be offering it exclusively to you—the readers of my e-newsletter—to download for nothing. Keep watching out for notification that TRIAL UNDER FIRE is ready for you to enjoy.

New website up and running…

My website,, is now completely revamped and updated, with responsive design to make it easier to look at on a smartphone or tablet. I update my blog every Sunday—blogging on MurderIsEverywhere on alternate weekends. You may also have noticed that I’m now much more active on Twitter and Facebook, which are integrated into the home page of my website.

In line with the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that came into force last month, I now have a Privacy Policy on my website. Basically, I promise not to abuse the trust you’ve placed in me by giving me your name and email address. You can, as ever, unsubscribe from this list at any time. But I hope you won’t, because the new website will soon offer…

…secret bonus pages

I’m planning some hidden bonus pages on the new website, accessible exclusively by readers on my email list. Let me know if you’d like to see:

  • Sneak peeks of new books as they’re being written
  • Inside information about my writing
  • Deleted scenes or other bonus material from the books
  • Competitions or giveaways

Bedside table

On my bedside table at the moment is THE WATCHMAN, the first of Adrian Magson’s thrillers about professional watcher and deep cover specialist, Marc Portman. Also, Valentina Giambanco’s latest, SWEET AFTER DEATH, about Seattle Homicide detective, Alison Madison. And I’ve finally been able to sit down and read Lee Child’s last Jack Reacher book, THE MIDNIGHT LINE, which is classic Reacher. On the non-fiction side, I’m looking forward to reading WHAT EVERY BODY IS SAYING, an FBI agent’s guide to speed-reading people, by Joe Navarro.
